Port of Dublin Capital Dredging Season 2 near Completion
The current capital dredging of
the approach channel at the Port of Dublin approaches the end of the second Winter
Season. The trailing suction hopper
dredger “Freeway” of Irish Dredging Company Ltd, a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis
Westminster N.V., has been undertaking dredging works in the outer areas of the
approach channel since October 2018. This section of the works is due to
conclude in March 2019, with just over one million cubic metres of sediment planned
to have been dredged.
The works at Dublin Port are restricted to the winter period only (October to March), with a monthly maximum disposal tonnage also in place. Therefore, the capital dredging of the approach channel from 7.8mCD to towards 10mCD must take place over several years. Dredging International undertook the dredging works within Season 1 (Winter 2017/18). These works form part of the larger Alexandra Basin Redevelopment at Dublin Port and form a key component of the Port’s Master Plan.
Anthony D Bates Partnership (ADBP) are the appointed Engineer on this project and once completion of this season’s dredging is complete, the contract for the Season 3, October 2019 to March 2020, will be distributed for tender.
